Voyages Into the Past, an initiative of students of history at Presidency University, Kolkata and Jadavpur University, Kolkata, among India's most prestigious institutions, invited C-SAS Director Sudeep Chakravarti for a colloquy titled 'A Home for No One: Manipur and Belonging in the Idea of India' on 4th September 2023. The subject was the major ethno-political crisis in the Indian state of Manipur, and its historical and political arc and the foreseeable future.

Prof. Chakravarti spoke from his extensive study of the region, also articulated specifically in two books ('The Eastern Gate: War and Peace in Nagaland, Manipur and India's far-East' and 'Highway 39: Journeys through a Fractured Land') and numerous articles and essays. He was joined by the journalist and author Samrat Choudhury (his most recent book is 'Northeast India: A Political History').

The free and frank address and subsequent exchange of views underscored the need for more such conversations and discussions aimed at understanding conflict situations and to mitigate them.

C-SAS seeks to reorient policy and practice to secure positive futures for South Asia.
